2014 was by far the worst year of my life, but I have high hopes for 2015. The only place to go is up right?
- I spent a good portion of the year couch surfing or living in my truck.
I borrowed and borrowed to try to save a failing business.
I'm late on literally every bill I have.
The woman I thought I was going to spend the rest of my life with and I split.
I was denied a claim at the VA despite being diagnosed with depression and PTSD due to military service.
My truck got broken into and the thieves drained three bank accounts.
Closed the door on my business and had to let the staff go.
I could keep going...
I'm not here for the pity party nor am I here to bore you with my 2014. 2015 is destined to be my best year ever and I'm damned determined to get back to even.
I didn't file taxes last year. My ex told me I received a notice on the apartment door from the IRS, but the information is at the post office.
I've since moved 4 hours from that location and can't exactly go back. I now have a job and I'm couch surfing someplace stable, but I'm not exactly out of the woods.
Prior to 2014 my credit was immaculate and I had never failed to pay my taxes on time.
My question is this:
What's my first step? Who do I contact? I need to prepare taxes for the prior two years, but I also need to protect my new paycheck from garnishment. I can't live on my friend's couch forever.
I know I need to let the IRS know my address changed, but how do I approach that phone call?
Any help will surely be appreciated.
Thanks in advance!
