Unusual Circumstances, 2014 Taxes Hello everyone. I've begun preparing my tax returns and have some very strange circumstances. I'm really at a loss as to how I should proceed - any help you can provide would be hugely appreciated.
From January 1 to August 31, 2014, I was self-employed and living in Boston. I should have some 1099-MISCs for the work I did. I own a condo there, and shared it with a roommate who rented one of the two bedrooms. In August, still living in the apartment, I applied for the City of Boston's Residential Exemption and was granted it.
In September, I moved abroad on a 10-month contract. I'm now living and working legally elsewhere, and my salary is paid in cash (they don't use checks where I live), but the company pays taxes to the government on my wages.
My questions are:
1) Do I owe the US Federal or Massachusetts governments any tax on my earnings overseas?
2) Can and should I list myself as a Massachusetts resident?
Thanks in advance for your help |
