Non-taxable scholarship and tax filling - should it be included in the tax form? I would like to ask if I should add to my tax filling (form 1040NR-EZ) the "non-taxable 95% Tuition waiver" $9000 amount from my 1098-T form.
I'm using form 1040NR-EZ for my tax filling.
There is a line #5 at the 1040NR-EZ stating:
"Scholarship and fellowship grants. Attach form(s) 1042-S or required statement"
and line #8 "Scholarship and fellowship grants excluded"
- should I fill these two lines (#5 +$9000 and #8 -$9000)? or non-taxable scholarships are not to be included in tax filling?
I even do not have the above mentioned form 1042-S, I got a form 1098-T from my university stating the "non-taxable 95% Tuition waiver".
The scholarship is for my Master degree at well known US university, it covers just and only the tuition and is non-taxable as written in the 1098-T form (it's NOT attached to any condition e.g. that I should do some work for the university etc...).
I'm non-resident alien for tax purposes. |
