The first thing to do is contact her employer to request another copy of your spouse’s W2.Her ER keeps a coy of her W2 . Or perhaps the boss can scan and email the document directly to you or to your tax pro. UNLESS her ER keeps a copy of her W2, then you need to contact the IRS as a copy of her W2 is sent to SSA and from SSA it is sent to the IRS.If these fail and other contact attempts are fruitless, you could use her last pay stub to provide the information that would likely appear on her W2. Employers are required to provide year-to-date data on your paystub. When filing an income tax return, you must list your gross pay and the amount of taxes withheld.
If you receive the missing W-2 after filing your tax return and the information on the W-2 is different from what you reported using Form 4852, then you must File Form 1040X to amend your tax return.
