I'm still waiting so, I filed my taxes with a local accountant electronically back at the end of February but was told that it was rejected because my ex-wife used the same child and had already used the SSN for that child. This was the child that I was told to claim each year per divorce decree. So, my accountant convinced her to send the extra money she got back as a result of claiming both children to the IRS and told me that it would take 6 additional months to get the refund, unless I wanted to settle for much less.
Since then, six months has passed and my ex has gotten the letter stating that the IRS received her payment and they have taken the payment. But, my accountant tried to electronically file recently and I was rejected yet again. Here it is in September and I'm still waiting and my accountant's advice is to just keep waiting. I'm wondering if there isn't something more active that could be done. He said that she should be getting some letter, but doesn't specify what that may be, from the IRS. I did tell him that she received the one verifying they received payment but I guess there is another letter still to come. He toyed with the idea of sending in a paper return but then said that it would probably just cause more confusion than anything good. Please help. |
