From PA working in NY

I recently graduated from college in June and have started my career. I am employed in a company with a rotational program in which I'll be moving each year for 4 or 5 years and am stationed in NY right now. I decided not to bother changing my address, vehicle registration, insurance, and driver's license (herein known as "Information") from my parents house in PA because I would have to do it every year. I have also worked in PA early in the year while still attending school.

Am I required by law to change my Information?

How will all of this information affect my tax filing next April? Would it be financially beneficial for me to just go ahead and change my Information? In which state should/would I file my taxes?

Clearly, you should maintain one state as your official residence state. If you have a PA address where you maintain a home and have all your important personal belongings you could be able to establish PA as your permanent residence.

As for tax purposes, I don't think there should be a substantial impact whatever you choose as you would be liable for NY State taxes as your income is sourced to NY State. However, if you maintain a PA residence you could be subject to PA State income tax filing requirements, although you would not be double taxed on your NY income.

Regarding changing your License and Vehicle registration, well on that topic I cannot advise you, suffice to say that you should perhaps only maintain a PA residence provided you maintain a physical home in PA!
