" the trip was with a group of about 10 people and was not associated with any particular church or other organization here in the US. . . i would like to deduct some or all of these expenses...is this possible?"------>Sorry. You can’t deduct the expenses; You can deduct your contributions , your volunteering, only if you make them to a qualified organization, or when you travelled overseas to volunteer and you used a USA-based non-profit organization to get you there, then there is a good chance you can deduct part, or all, of your expenses, travel expenses and phone calls, postage, stationery, computer paper, and other out-of-pocket costs incurred with your volunteer work, on your tax returns. You will need a letter from the organization stating what you donated, your volunteering. Your volunteering is not considered a donation of goods, so it cannot be deducted from your taxes. |
