Alcoholism treatment expenses - please help! Hi. Please help me pay my taxes correctly. I have the following question about how to write off my medical expenses:
In 2010, I received treatment for alcoholism. It consisted of an in-patient portion and a "sober living" out-patient portion. My costs were as follows:
1) In-patient portion - $6,500 for one month paid by my parents directly to the provider.
2) 8 months of outpatient "sober living" at one facility at $550 a month, where I lived "on campus" of the medical facility, attended some of the same classes as the in-patient guys etc. This is paid by me out of my pocket.
3) 3 months of "sober living" at a sober living house which is not affiliated with any licensed medical facility at $900 a month. Also paid by me out of my own pocket.
4) Lab charges for random weekly alcohol tests in the amount of about $1,800. This is medically required as per treating physician. Came out of my pocket.
More info: my sole income in 2010 was $25k in unemployment income. My life, as you can tell from the above, kind of fell apart in 2010.
What is deductible, if any? Thank you so much in advance! |
