“Can a couple that is separated and have 2 children both file head of house hold if living in separate houses for 6 months and each have a qualifing dependant?”---->No. You can’t; your child, as a qualifying child, needed to live with you in the home for more than half of the tax year( > 6 months). As long as the child lived with you( or with your spouse for another child) for more than six months , and If each of you pays more than half of the expenses of each qualifying child, then each of you can file as HOH. Each of the couple should bdeunmarried as of the last day of the tax year. |
