Question on classifying employment for income purposes

I am currently being paid by an organization as a vendor - they pay me a certain amount to teach a class. I have heard that I will have to incorporate myself as an LLC if I hit a certain threshold. Is this true? Do I need to revert to being a contractor under a 1099 to avoid tax implications?
