Common Omissions on the NY State Individual Tax Return!

If you are a New York City Public Employee and have 414(h) retirement contributions, you must add this amount back into New York State Income, as New York State does not allow a deduction for this amount.

On the W-2, the 414(h) retirement contributions are not included into Wages in Box 1. Thus, it is important not to forget to add these contributions back into New York State Taxable income in the New York State Additions.

Failure to add this amount will result in possible penalties and interest on the New York State Income Tax.
