“ The total amount was the same. I have printed all the copies corrected versions of the 1099-misc, but I am not sure if I need to include a 1096 with copy A for the IRS.”----->ERs use Form 1096 to report forms 1099, 1098 and W-2G or etc. The 1096 is like a cover sheet; it is submitted solely to list the variety of forms that will be filed with it. If you forgot to file any of these forms or made a mistake on one of them, you need to file a new 1096. You can submit the new 1096 with amounts of the additional and corrected forms. All you have to do is to mail Form 1096 to the appropriate IRS address as shown on Form 1096, When you mail Form 1096, include the amended or corrected 1099-Misc and check mark the Box that indicates Corrected. The corrected 1099-Misc is all you have to include with Form 1096 and since it includes the check mark X against the Corrected box, this will tell the IRS that you are including an Amended 1099-Misc Form. |
