I am the legal guardian of a non-related minor. I understand I can claim him as a dependent on my taxes, but am unsure how. There is not a category for legal guardian in the "relationship to taxpayer" field and using the option "other" does not allow the deduction. What procedure do I follow in this circumstance?

You can claim the minor as a dependent on your taxes;as long as the minor was placed with you as a foster child by an authorized placement agency ,i.e., Child and Family Services or the judgment or order of a court of competent jurisdiction then the child is your Qualifying Child for tax purposes.
