it depends on the amount of MAGI, provisional income; for example, you need to pay tax on your SSI benefits of $23K IF the amount of your MAGI(50% of SSI plus AGI), provisional income, I mean is more than $32K. so, your MAGI is $34,500;$23000+$11500.so 50% of Soc. Sec. income($11,500)or 50% of amount your MAGI exceeds threshold($1,250) – whichever is less is included in your AGI on 1040 line 37.
